PAYING FOR CARE

There are several ways to pay for care in a skilled nursing facility.  The discharge planner in the hospital will go over this information with you or the Admissions Coordinator at Worthington Manor, Inc. will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

MEDICARE

Medicare is a federally funded insurance program for those people 65 or older, people who have been disabled for at least two years, or those suffering from chronic kidney disease.

For Medicare to cover in a skilled nursing facility there must be at least a three (3) day stay in the hospital within thirty (30) days of admissions to the skilled nursing facility.  The physician must determine that it is medically necessary and order skilled services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or skilled nursing services.

Medicare will assist in paying for a total of one hundred (100) days in a skilled nursing home if the person meets the above criteria.  The 100 days are broken up as such:

The First 20 days at 100%                The next 80 days all charges but $128.00 per day

REMEMBER:    THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEED 100 DAYS

 FINANCES

Most secondary insurances will pay all or part of the $128.00 that Medicare does not cover.  Our Accounting Department will be happy to check your insurance benefits and inform you of their coverage.

After the Medicare benefits have been exhausted, and if the individual needs to remain in the nursing home, another payer source will need to be considered.

MEDICAID

Medicaid is a state assistance program for the needy and low income individuals of all ages.  All Medicaid recipients must be approved by the Department of Health and Human Resources to receive assistance for nursing home care.

OTHER PAYMENT OPTIONS

Private pay means that the individual pays for the room and board, supplies, medications and services provided.  Long term care insurances or other insurance policies might pay all or a portion of the nursing home cost.  Our Accounting office would be happy to check these policies for you.
